THE BEGINNING

Taste for Charity was founded in 2014 after a few public health inspectors saw a need to raise awareness and funds for Clinica Verde, a maternal and infant clinic in Boaco, Nicaragua. After much discussion on how they could best support and raise funds for the clinic, they decided that a cookbook of favorite family recipes should be developed.  The health inspectors sought support from the Environmental Health Foundation of Canada (EHFC) and the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI) who partnered to create the cookbook.

A call for recipes was sent out across the nation, and treasured recipes from health inspectors near and far were compiled into the first ever limited edition cookbook entitled Taste: The Classic Collection. All net proceeds from the sale of the cookbook go directly to Clinica Verde to aid in funding operations, nutritional seminars, and a biointensive garden, to name a few.

THE HERE AND NOW

In late 2016, Taste For Charity endeavored to aid a group of health inspectors committed to travelling to Nicaragua in cooperation with El Porvenir, an international non-profit organization providing work trips to improve sanitation and provide clean water in Nicaragua.  In February 2017, the group spent 10 days in Nicaragua building a water well and visiting Clinica Verde to gain a better understanding of public health beyond our borders.
